Creating Art With Chalkola and Toddler Twins

Now that my tiny humans are almost three, we are starting to try new activities. In the past few months they have made some leaps that have shown me that they are ready for activities that require more focus. I have always enjoyed the arts and being creative and I have tried countless times to enjoy them with my boys, but they just weren’t ready.

Grayson and Sawyer would become easily distracted and they just weren’t interested. Lately though they have been loving it. We color, we play with kinetic sand, paint with watercolor, and draw with chalk outside. They share with me what they are drawing or coloring and usually ask now to do these activities with me.

When I learned about Chalkola I knew I had to try their products, we love chalk and I thought it would be great to also do it inside but without the residue that the chalk leaves. I also loved the idea of practicing their colors, letters, and shapes inside with chalk.

We received a wooden easel and a box of chalk markers in the mail and immediately started coloring. The boys loved all the different color options. They quickly learned how to shake the pens and color and loved using the easel. The easel is also aesthetically pleasing which I appreciate! The only drawback from the easel is that it falls easily so I lay it flat and we color on it mostly that way.

The markers are the size of a wide marker which allows these little babes to hold them easily and to have more control. They have different tones of colors and they are vibrant and fun. The chalk cleans up quickly and comes off easily when it gets on hard surfaces and washes out of clothes because that’s life with toddlers!

I love that we can spend some one on one time now connecting while we do art. I also love to use these moments to insert a little bit of learning. The boys love naming the letters of the alphabet, they love naming the shapes and recently we have started learning the numbers.

I find that if I just let them explore and express themselves creatively without much input then there’s a window after where they are engaged and excited to learn. Products such as these chalk markers and easel from Chalkola bring art to the home and encourage creativity and learning. They also allow you to take the time to sit and create and connect with your toddlers which is what matters to them most and the most valuable way to spend our times as mamas.
